Phillipston Select Board sets July 24 special town meeting on school assignment dispute

PHILLIPSTON — June 26, 2019 — Phillipston Select Board votes to hold special town meeting July 24 to address school district assignment dispute. The board unanimously scheduled the meeting and voted to close the warrant on July 10, with a public hearing on a proposed zoning bylaw set for July 15. The five-article warrant includes a petition backed by 45 signatures from resident Ruth French asking the town to authorize the Select Board to petition the Narragansett Regional School District to require kindergarten through grade 5 students to attend schools in their town of residence except in defined emergencies. The board also unanimously approved a $2,230 contract with TruGreen to treat a severe grub infestation at the town cemetery, adopted its own host community agreement template for marijuana facilities over two alternatives submitted by town counsel, and took a confirmatory vote approving a pledge of inventory for a license transfer at the King Philip after the state ABCC flagged a gap in the original approval.
